Under limited supervision, enforces county and state animal related laws and regulations as directed by the Sheriff. Focuses on the protection and welfare of animals and citizens in Fremont County.


Patrols areas of unincorporated Fremont County looking for dogs, livestock and other animals that are not confined as required or that may be vicious, injured, sick or in need of assistance. Responds to calls for service involving at large, nuisance, vicious, injured and deceased animals or as directed by the Sheriff. Investigates reports of vicious, nuisance, abused or neglected animals with the assistance of patrol deputies as needed. Evaluates animals for sickness, injury or neglect. Completes reports and forms as needed to document investigations and actions taken on job related assignments and tasks. Apprehends and transports animals to appropriate shelters, medical facilities or other locations utilizing provided apprehension and control equipment, tools and vehicle. Issues citations, conducts necessary follow-up, prepares cases and testifies in court hearings and trials.


High school diploma or general education degree; or one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred, in animal care and handling preferred.

Additional Requirements: 

Valid Colorado driver’s license required. Pre-Employment physical and drug screening required. Must be able to pass a background investigation.
