Building Inspector - TEMPORARY / FULL-TIME

Performs inspections to assure all new residential and commercial construction and facilities conform to zoning and building codes including building, mechanical, community sanitation standards, Colorado State Manufactured Home Installation Program and any other related codes and regulations. Inspects new and existing buildings and structures during construction, repairs and alterations to ensure compliance with applicable State and County building codes and regulations. Reviews plans and ensures adherence to specifications.


Receives and reviews building, septic and flood damage prevention permit applications to ensure compliance with County building codes, zoning regulations and contract specifications. Reviews plans for conformance to Building Codes of Fremont County; OWTS Regulations; Flood Damage Prevention Regulations; International Energy Conservation Code; and the International Mechanical Code (as referenced by the Building Code of Fremont County). Informs parties of deficiencies in plans. Issues building permits to applicants. Consults with contractors, developers, architects, property owners and engineers regarding permit requests; coordinates or provides information to address deficiencies. Performs field inspections during the construction, repair or alterations of new and existing buildings or structures. Conducts thorough inspections of all aspects of the construction including foundations, slabs, frames, insulation, drywall, exterior cladding, roof covering, septic tanks, leach fields and manufactured home placement. Uses various tools or equipment to perform inspections, such as measuring devices, ladders, survey instruments, metering devices and test equipment to conduct inspections, verify alignment, level and elevation of structures. Ensures proper set backs on property. Inspects preliminary and final plans for completeness and accuracy to code specifications.


Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university; or one (1) to two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements: 

Valid and current Colorado Driver’s License. I.C.C. Building Inspection Certification preferred, otherwise required within 18 months of hire date. Colorado State MHIP Inspector certification preferred, otherwise required within 18 months of hire date. I.C.C. Plans Examiner Certificate preferred.

This position is being filled on a temporary basis with potential to become permanent.
