Summary: 

Determines ongoing eligibility of applicants for Old Age Pension, Aid to the Needy Disabled Programs, Medicaid Programs and Long-Term Care programs, as well as Food Assistance associated with the household.  This position performs duties that entail handling difficult cases involving income trusts cases, spousal impoverishment and community spouse allowance for nursing home residents’ cases and working with financial institutions, financial advisors and the legal profession.  Position may also determine initial eligibility for clients.

Determines eligibility for these programs by interpreting rules, regulations, and policies governing each program area.  Authorizes continuation, reduction, or termination of benefits when the recipient’s determined to be ineligible for the level of benefits received.  Assists clients in completing forms.  Secures verification of eligibility factors such as income, resources, identity, age, citizenship, residence, and social security number. Assists clients in interpretation and preparation of legal forms in order to establish an Income Trust to become eligible for Nursing Home or Long Term Care.  Provides a resource assessment and assists clients and their spouses in the transfer of assets according to the rules and regulations pertaining to spousal protection.  Calculates the minimum monthly maintenance allowance for the community spouse. Completes and prepares all attorneys referral forms for income trust cases.  Each case presents unique circumstances and must be looked at for varying eligibility criteria.  

Qualifications: 

Level II - Graduation from high school or GED equivalency. Six (6) months full time, paid or unpaid, experience involving extensive public contact. Level III Two (2) years full time responsible office clerical or extensive public contact experience for more advanced position. Successful completion of an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in business, behavioral science, or appropriately related field may substitute for work experience. Level IV – Must have successfully completed one year at a Level III.

Additional Requirements: 

Valid Colorado driver’s license required. Must pass a nationwide background check.
