Historic Landmarks Sought in Fremont County

The Fremont County Heritage Commission will be launching the program for Local Landmark Designation in January 2014.  The focus of this effort will be to identify, inventory and promote the historic nature of many of the buildings, landscapes and sites in our County,

The application will be owner generated.   The Heritage Commission expects those who now own a historic property to come forward, and demonstrate their interest in a designation as historic property.  The process will entail using the application from the Commission, with the instructions and criteria for completing it.  The applications will be available online at fremontheritage@gmail.com as well as through the Fremont County website www.fremontco.com.

The application will also be available from any member of the Heritage Commission.  The Commission invites your participation if you now own a prospective historical landmark, or would like to nominate a site that you feel worthy of the Historic Designation.   This process is different from, and apart from the State Historic Society – History Colorado.  The Commission is confident that this designation will be of enormous help in applying for that next step – State Historic Designation.

The Heritage Commission will be very happy to explain the program and the application process to anyone who is interested.  You are invited to attend any of the Commission’s regular meetings on the third Tuesday each month, in the Lower Level Conference Room of the Fremont County Administration Building, at 615 Macon Avenue in Cañon City.
